CHOOM

BABYMONSTER's CHOOM, the title track of their May 2026 EP, is a party song that doubles as a mission statement. The hook works as bilingual wordplay: 춤 (choom) is simply the Korean word for "dance," but stretched into the English-language chant of the chorus it becomes a brand, a dare, and the group's calling card all at once. The whole track is engineered to make that one syllable feel inevitable.

The opening countdown sets the temperature immediately. "1, 2 heat is on / 3, 4 BABYMON" is a roll call dressed as a starting pistol, and the verbs piling up around it (own it, burn it, kick it, flip that) establish the song's grammar before any melody arrives. This is a track that prefers commands to descriptions.

The first verse plays with a recurring K-pop posture: the entrance. The group walks in "stomping like we own the place," and follows it with a line that has become something of a signature for them, the pun on "we're seven but we ate." The wordplay (seven members, but they ate, i.e., dominated) is the kind of internet-fluent flex that signals the song knows exactly which audience it is talking to. The follow-up image, "sweet and sour lemons, lemonade," extends the bragging into a taste metaphor without slowing the momentum.

The hook as thesis

The pre-chorus shifts from swagger to seduction. "Loosen up, watch me set the mood / Burn it up, do it like I do" is instruction more than invitation, and the stuttered "muh-muh-mind" is a small piece of vocal choreography that previews the chorus's percussive repetition. When the drop arrives, the song lands on its central bilingual conceit: 리듬을 삼켜 보자 (let's swallow the rhythm), then Choom. The Korean line treats rhythm as something you ingest, which makes the English chant of "choom choom choom" feel like the aftereffect, the body's involuntary response.

The weekday roll call in the chorus, 월 화 수 목 금 토 (Monday through Saturday), turns the party into a schedule. It is a small but telling choice; the song is not promising one big night, it is promising every night, an aesthetic of perpetual celebration. The post-chorus then collapses everything into onomatopoeia: vroom vroom, choom choom, da da da. Meaning gives way to syllable, which is the point.

Empress mode

The second verse leans hardest into the group's persona. A member shout-out ("ASA be killing it") gives way to imperial language: empress, MONSTER queen, "이 구역에 난" (in this district, I am). The line "모두가 찍 소리 못하는 Groove" (a groove no one can make a peep against) is the song's clearest statement of intent. CHOOM is not interested in vulnerability or doubt; it is interested in being unanswerable.

The bridge briefly darkens the lighting: "어둠이 짙게 내리고" (the darkness falls thick), and then "이제 MONSTER party." It is a tiny piece of narrative scaffolding, the moment the club tips from evening into night, before the final chorus pours back in. The closing chant, "Everybody everybody make some room / Choom," is the song folding its own English ("room") into its Korean ("choom") one last time, the pun finally fully audible.

Why it works

CHOOM belongs to a specific lineage of K-pop title tracks built around a single chantable syllable that doubles as the group's thesis. What distinguishes this one is how cleanly the bilingual pun does double duty: it is a dance instruction in Korean and a hook in English without either language having to compromise. For a group still in the early phase of defining itself, that economy matters. The song does not ask you to understand BABYMONSTER. It asks you to repeat their word back to them.
